Our first pop-up dinner at the incredible Parlez in Brockley was a massive success with tickets sold out early and a relaxed atmosphere the whole night through.

Syrian chefs Mahir and Abdullah created a delicious feast, whilst guests were also treated to live music from Catford based lute player Rick Jones and a speech from Karen Canty, Chair of Refugee Welcome. Thanks to everyone that made it a success and a special shout out to Lewisham Food Centre, SWOP shop and Lee Greens Veg Box who all donated beautiful produce!

Abdullah co-cheffed with Mahir and brought his experience as Damascus Chef to design the menu:
“Drawing on the many threads of Syrian Cuisine I aim to stimulate the senses of vegans and carnivores alike, the gluten lovers and gluten free, the light snackers and the heavy eaters among us with zest, passion and precision.”

The Refugee Cafe is run on the kindness and goodwill of all our volunteers. We are all local people with a shared vision for our borough. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or a member then please do get in touch on our contact page.
