The Refugee Cafe has come up with an innovative way to open up your world, with the traditional culinary delights of Syrian cuisine, available right on your very own doorstep.

Some of you may not have had a chance to travel since the start of the pandemic, but why let that stop you from trying something new, right in your own home. Why not bring the country to you? Well, at least the food.

The Refugee Cafe has come up with an innovative way to open up your world, with the traditional culinary delights of Syrian cuisine, available right on your very own doorstep. At the same time you will be providing our chefs with experience and an opportunity to develop their skills.

Local refugees (with refugee status) will create dishes to give you a taste which makes up the tapestry of the culture of their homeland, and whisk you away on an adventure in the comfort of your own home; providing you with a very personal and intimate experience to share with family and friends.

All that’s needed is an available kitchen space, a few utensils and a little assistance from yourself about how your kitchen works and you are on your way to a taste adventure of the Middle East. On the day, if you choose to assist the chef a little in the kitchen, then you will also have the opportunity to learn some new dishes you can go on to make again for those who were not able to attend.

The menus are agreed when booking and there is a choice between three options, a three course dinner, buffet and afternoon tea, with options for both the carnivore and vegetarian alike to suit your desired preference.

Three course dinner menus and buffet are set at £40 per person with the afternoon tea at £15 per person. The dinner comes with a starter and breads, followed by the main and then a dessert. The buffet will be meze/finger food option which will be vine leaves, kibbeh which is a mixture of minced meat, bulgur or rice/ salad & bread; followed by the desert. Afternoon tea comes with Syrian tea and cakes.

Please be aware that some of our refugees may not as yet be able to speak English fluently so will need you to take your time when instructing them on where to find things in your kitchen.
