This Summer you can try some delicious recipes made in Lewisham by local refugee chefs!
You can order from our online shop, pick up from GRACE or come and meet us at RARE Market, Woolwich this Saturday. If you’re a Lewisham resident we’ll cycle these summery sauces to your door.
Hailing from countries such as Syria and Ecuador, our the refugee cafe team have prepared some amazing, flavoursome food for you to try.
This creamy Hummus can be enjoyed at any time of the day. It is usually paired with pita bread but would also be great with some of our garlicky Syrian pickled vegetables with Mediterranean herbs and spices.
The pickles last for two weeks but they’re they’re so tasty, we haven’t gone more than a few days!
Marco, our trustee and Ecuadorian refugee, has made a delightfully fresh Chimichurri from his home country.
“My great grandma, used to put some local flavoured alcohol – Licor Pastaza – to give it some more flavour.
This recipe could be used as a top on the fried meat or you can eat as it is with some empanadas de platano (plantain pastries) y carne or tortillas de verde (Green plantain bread). Your choice!”
Incorporating fresh herbs and a range of aromatic spices, this sauce would pair fantastically with any main, whatever your tastes.
